Preliminary Task

Who was in my group:
  • Georgina Heaton
  • Rebecca Nielsen
  • Christina Kane
What we did:
  1. The first thing we did was look at the storyboard and the shots we had to take
  2. We then got straight to work and set up the camera. We were using the Sony NX
  3. We then shot our sequence
What shots we did:
  1. Wide angle of whole scene
  2. Over the shoulder shot (Christina)
  3. Close up of Rebecca
  4. Over the shoulder shot (Rebecca)
  5. Close up of Christina
  6. Extra shots: pen and paper close up, door closing and Rebecca walking out of the room
What we had to think about:
  1. Continuity - This was hard to achieve because we had to try and remember little things that needed to be the same for each shot an example of these are: hair, computer screens, placing of pen and paper and where Rebecca stood.
  2. Angles - We wanted to make our scene interesting by using different angles and levels
  3. Takes - If we weren't sure that we had got the shot we wanted in the first take we would film it again until we feel that we achieved the shot we wanted, this meant that we had to do about 4 takes of the same shot
  4. Brightness - We had to make sure the brightness was right so the shots weren't to bright or to dark
  5. Focus - We had to make sure that we kept checking the focus of the shot
  6. Communication - We had to shout the key words when filming to make sure everyone was ready. These were: "Stand by", "Standing by", "Roll camera", "Rolling", "Action" and "Cut". These words were important because it made everyone in the room know that we were ready to shoot and it made the actors know when their cue was.
  7. White Balance - This was one of the first things we checked when using the camera
  8. The 180 degree rule - This was one of the important things we had to think about to make sure the shots looked right and not reversed when we came to edit them
Here's a diagram showing the 180 degree rule:

This was the story board we used:
This helped us know what shots we need to film and it made the whole process run smoothly and quickly because we didn't have to come up with dialogue.
